Steve West Tapped To Take New Community Benefits Leadership Role
Senior Vice President and Chief Legal Officer Steve West has been named Senior Vice President of Community Benefits, a position that will focus his skills, knowledge and passion to benefit Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare and its community partners.
West — who has served Methodist for 29 years — will serve as the Institute’s first Executive Director.
West is also assuming a part-time role as the first Executive Director for the newly-forming Health Law Institute at the University of Memphis Cecil C. Humphrey School of Law.
Whitney Partin Receives Outstanding Nursing Student Award
Whitney Partin, RN, MSN, CCRN, recently received the Outstanding Nursing Administration Student Award from the Loewenberg School of Nursing at the University of Memphis. Partin is the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit Patient Care Coordinator at Le Bonheur Children’s Medical Center.
The award is “presented annually to the graduate student who exhibits academic and clinical excellence and who displays a collegial spirit among peers and professionals within the advanced practice community.” Dean of the School of Nursing, Dr. Marjorie Luttrell and Dr. Joan Thomas presented the award.
Partin received a Master of Science in Nursing with a concentration in nursing administration in December 2006. She maintained a 4.0 grade point average and was inducted into the Phi Kappa Phi honor society. She is also a member of Sigma Theta Tau International, honor society of nursing.
Memphis Heart Clinic Partners with Memphis Restaurant Association
Memphis Heart Clinic (MHC) announced recently their partnership with the Memphis Restaurant Association as they launch Heart Builders, a new initiative offering Memphians heart healthy options in local area restaurants. As part of the initiative, Memphis Restaurant Association has named MHC its official Heart Healthy Partner.
Heart Builders will work with local restaurants to place heart healthy items on their menus. As part of the program, MHC provides participating restaurants access to its team of cardiologists and a nutritionist. MHC also works with restaurants to evaluate existing menu items and either identify or create heart healthy options.
Hueys, Dboís and Garibaldiís Pizza have completed the menu analyzing process and will began serving their heart healthy items in May. There are also plans to involve additional restaurants. The Half Shell has signed up as a participant with plans to put heart healthy items on their menus.
UTHSC Professor Peter A. Netland, MD, PhD, Honored by American Academy of Ophthalmology
Peter A. Netland, MD, PhD, Siegal Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC), will receive the Senior Achievement Award from the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) at its annual conference in New Orleans this fall.
Dr. Netland is also director of the Glaucoma Service and vice-chair for Academic Affairs for the UTHSC Department of Ophthalmology.
With an undergraduate degree from Princeton University, Dr. Netland went on to complete a PhD at Harvard University and an MD at the University of California (San Francisco) School of Medicine. A postgraduate internship in general surgery at the University of California, a residency in ophthalmology at Massachusetts Eye & Ear Infirmary (MEEI), and a fellowship in glaucoma at MEEI rounded out his extensive medical training.
UT Cancer Institute Develops Multidisciplinary Clinic
The Mid-South Multidisciplinary Thoracic Clinic recently began a weekly clinic to address many of the challenges in cancer care, allowing key practitioners from a wide range of healthcare areas to interact with patients and their caregivers.
Ray Osarogiagbon, MD, FACP, assistant professor in the UTHSC Department of Medicine, Division of Hematology, and hematologist and medical oncologist at the UT Cancer Institute, developed the weekly clinic
The clinic is staffed by many talented healthcare professionals with diverse backgrounds. Dr. Osarogiagbon encourages public participation in the clinics and the conferences.
Smith & Nephew Appoints Joseph DeVivo President of Orthopaedic Reconstruction
Smith & Nephew plc (NYSE: SNN, LSE: SN) announced recently the appointment of Joseph DeVivo as President of its Orthopaedic Reconstruction division. He will be based at the Orthopaedic Reconstruction headquarters in Memphis.
DeVivo, 40, joins Smith & Nephew with 18 years of marketing, development, sales, operations and executive leadership experience. Most recently he served as President and Chief Executive Officer of RITA Medical Systems, Inc.
Methodist Extended Care Hospital Names Chief Nursing Officer
Sandra Hugueley has been named chief nursing officer for Methodist Extended Care Hospital (MECH).
As chief nursing officer, Hugueley is responsible for leading the operations of clinical departments within MECH, as well as for results and outcomes of care throughout those clinical departments. The chief nursing officer is accountable for patient care and nursing practices and the oversight of nursing roles and practices.
Hugueley joined Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare in 1986 as an RN, becoming nurse manager of Medical-Surgical ICU at Methodist North Hospital in 1997. She has served in a variety of nurse leadership positions, most recently as corporate director of Interim Administrative Services.
Methodist Fayette Hospital Names New Administrator
David Crislip, BSN has been named the new administrator for Methodist Fayette Hospital.
In his new role, Crislip will report to William Kenley, chief executive officer and administrator, Methodist North Hospital.
Crislip joined Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare in 1998 as the director of patient care services at Methodist Healthcare - Fayette Hospital. He served as chief nursing executive and associate administrator at Fayette prior to be named administrator.
Crislip holds a BSN from the University of Memphis and recently completed his MBA coursework.
